Martha’s houseIn 1995 Glud Museum bought this plain little half-timbered house. The house had not been occupied since 1991. The latest occupier, the occasional cook, Martha Henriksen moved into a rest house where she died 6 months later. The house was separated and moved to Glud Museum for reconstruction. For a long time the house had been interesting for Glud Museum and in 1988 when Martha Henriksen still lived there, students from the Building Academy in Horsens measured it. This material gave us knowledge about the destiny of the house and was a solid foundation for the reconstruction. Martha's House complets Glud Museum’s collection of farmhouses. The house represents the second lowest social level in the villages and it shows the mixed economy that combines farming with paid jobs or earning from a craft. Most of the century the house was used only for habitation and due to the long continuity in the owner line no radical modernisation was made. We have reconstructed it with home and barn in the same house. |
